Background
The title was first announced in a July 2014 interview with the magazine Teen Vogue.

On February 13, 2015, Kesha captioned an Instagram photo "Child of the 🌙". On February 18, 2015 Kesha's makeup artist referenced the song in an Instagram caption in a photo of Kesha. On June 10, 2015 she revealed again that "Child of the Moon" is a song title. Later that year, November 18, 2015, Kesha posted a picture on Instagram of her spaceship tattoo with the caption "Child of the Moon", clearly referencing the song.
On January 11, 2017, Kesha used song lyrics as another Instagram caption: "child of the 🌙+⭐️⭐️⭐️". She also reposted a cover art by a fan on Instagram, but it has since been removed. Despite talking about and referencing the song many times from 2014 to 2017, the song did not appear on the Rainbow tracklisting.
On February 18, 2018, Kesha's makeup artist teased the song again in the caption of an Instagram photo of Kesha.
