Background and release[]

On February 14, 2024, Kesha was photographed holding a cardboard sign that read, "FREEDOM, I'VE BEEN WAITING FOR YOU". She later uploaded a teaser video on her social media, with a snippet of a new song for her sixth studio album. She performed at WeHo Pride on June 1, 2024 where she opened the show with a new song. She noted that this was the first performance as an official "free woman", referring to the end of her legal battle with Dr. Luke and fulfilling her contract with RCA and Kemosabe Records. After the performance, she uploaded another snippet on her private Instagram account under her "iiswhoiis" handle.

A preview of the song was posted on a Soundcloud account, under the title of "Kesha is coming..." The username was under K7724.[2] The song was performed live on July 3, 2024.[3]

On Christmas 2024, a snippet of the song was supposedly sent by Kesha to a fan.[4] However, she tweeted out the next day questioning who was leaking her songs, indicating that wasn't her.[5]

On March 15, 2025, Kesha posted another snippet of the song on her Instagram and confirmed her album was finished.[6]

"FREEDOM" was the first song written and recorded for the record, which gave Period it's direction for the sound and lyrics. She stated the song was about how she feel now: "a celebration of sexual liberation, bodily autonomy, and spiritual revolution".[7]

A demo version leaked on December 25, 2025.

Composition[]

"Freedom" is described as a "wistful meditation" that transitions into a house dance track, inspired by 80s music, and runs about six minutes.[8]

Lyrics[]

Oh, oh
Oh
Oh
Oh
Ah
Ah
Ooh
Freedom
I've been waiting for you
Everything's changed now
We haven't talked for a while
Narcissism
This makes you happy

I only drink when I'm happy and I'm drunk right now
All of you motherfuckers watch out 'cause your bitch back in town
Baby, I'm free, I am on fire, a fucking dime
God, I feel good, it's about time

They said crazy girls are better in bed
Well, I can do one better instead
Take me to that sex shop, bitch
I'm making this song stuck in your head
Maybe this bitch off of her meds
I like it when they all watch
Baby, make the beat drop

Freedom
Oh, I've been waiting for you now
Freedom
Oh, I've been waiting for you now

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh-oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh-oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh-oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh-oh, oh
Drop it, bitch

I only drink when I'm happy and I'm drunk right now
I-I-I drink when I'm happy and I'm drunk right now (That's nasty)
I only drink when I'm happy and I'm drunk right now
I-I-I drink when I'm happy and I'm drunk right now (That's nasty)

Crazy girls are better in bed
Well, I can do one better instead
Take me to that sex shop, bitch
Say making this song stuck in your head
Maybe this bitch off of her meds
I like it when they all watch
Baby, make the beat drop (She likes that)

Freedom
Oh, I've been waiting for you now
Freedom
Oh, I've been waiting for you now
Freedom
Oh, I've been waiting for you now
Freedom
Oh, I've been waiting for you now

Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh-oh, oh, oh
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh-oh, oh, oh (Take me to the sex shop, bitch)
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh-oh, oh, oh (Come on, make me feel good)
Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh-oh, oh (Take me to the sex shop)
And drop it, bitch

Said crazy girls are better in bed
Well, I can do one better instead
Take me to that sex shop, bitch
Said crazy girls are better in bed
Well, I can do them one better instead
Take me to the sex shop
Baby, make the beat drop

Freedom
Oh, I've been waiting for you now
Freedom
Oh, I've been waiting for you now
Freedom
Oh, I've been waiting for you now
Freedom
Oh, I've been waiting for you
