"Honey" is a song by Kesha from her fourth studio album, High Road. It was originally recorded in 2016 for her third studio album, Rainbow, but it was scrapped and later re-worked for High Road.[citation needed] It serves as the sixth track from the album. The song features uncredited vocals from Tayla Parx and Chelcee Grimes[1], one of the co-writers, and backing vocals from Stuart Crichton.
It was written by Kesha, Stuart Crichton, Tayla Parx, and Chelcee Grimes.[2]
Background[]
According to her Irish Times interview, Kesha debated on whether including the song on the album.
“ | Honey was one of those songs I debated on putting on the record or not. I just think what I’m worried about is there’s such a culture of cancel culture [that] if you say the wrong thing, your whole career and livelihood and everything you worked so hard for is, hashtag, cancelled. And it scares me to be open and honest but I don’t know how to be anything other than open and honest, | ” |
She decided that being angry with two people who broke your heart is rather justifiable – it’s not something to feel guilty about.
“ | ...and that’s why I inevitably decided to put that song on that record because I just can’t pretend that I’m cool with everything. I’m a bit of a . . . I’m a nature punk...I try to be as cool with everything as possible because in the end, I’m also a bit of a nihilist and not sure that anything really matters anyway. | ” |
Lyrics[]
I remember every time we used to be together
Yeah, we were ride-or-die, we even used to pee together
I used to be the shoulder that you would cry on
When Polly fucked you over, I'm the one you'd rely on
When it all began, I was your biggest fan
You've gone and fucked it over, over half a man
And breakfast on a yacht in the French Riviera
Delete my number, bitch, sayonara
That's girl code, baby girl
And you broke the golden rule
So I guess I'll see you never, so bye-bye
Honey, you can have my sloppy seconds If you really need (Take it)
Find my pictures under 'legends' if you Google me
And he's only sleeping with you tryna get to me
You're so easy
You're dead to me, oh
Hey, hey
Hey, woah (You would stab me in your back with your stripper shoe)
Hey, hey
Hey, woah
I don't talk shit unless it's true
You smell that? Damn, it must be you
I didn't have a crystal ball, but I always knew
You would stab me in the back with your stripper shoe
Even my friends thought that it was weird
When you'd be coming over, even when I wasn't here
You're just a copycat, but no one's buying that
Up on the discount rack, right at the back of T.J.Maxx
That's girl code, baby girl
And you broke the golden rule
So I guess I'll see you never, so bye-bye
Honey, you can have my sloppy seconds If you really need
Find my pictures under 'legends' if you Google me
And he's only sleeping with you tryna get to me
You're so easy
You're dead to me, oh
Hey, hey
Hey, woah (You would stab me in your back with your stripper shoe)
Hey, hey
Hey, woah
Honey, mmm
You were more to me, you were more like family
When you were under attack, had your back
You were more than a friend to me
It was us against the world
You were my girl
I still can't believe you did this to me, oh
Honey, you can have my sloppy seconds If you really need
Find my pictures under 'legends' if you Google me
And he's only sleeping with you tryna get to me
You're so easy
You're dead to me, oh
Hey, hey
Hey, woah (You would stab me in your back with your stripper shoes)
Hey, woah
Hey, woah
