RCA Records is an American record label, owned by Sony Music Entertainment. It was founded in January of 1900, originally named the Consolidated Talking Machine Company. It was the record label Kesha was signed to from 2005–2023, as well as having a joint deal with Kemosabe Records.
The label has also signed artists like Britney Spears, Miley Cyrus, Little Mix, Justin Timberlake, and more.
History with Kesha[]
In 2009, after failing to negotiate with Lava Records and Atlantic Records, Kesha signed a multi-album (6 albums) deal with RCA Records. On August 7, 2009, Kesha would release her debut single, "TiK ToK", through the label. The song was a major success, topping the U.S. charts for 9 weeks and breaking many records. In May 2010, Kesha's former managers from DAS Communications Inc. filed a lawsuit against her, seeking $14 million from her for commissions on her RCA Records deal, alleging that she had extended the deadline for them to get her a major record label contract and squeezed them out of her career. Kesha launched her own lawsuit in October, citing the California-exclusive Talent Agencies Act and asking the California Labor Commissioner to declare her contract with DAS void because it had acted as an unlicensed talent agent while procuring work for her in California, where only licensed agents can do so. The case was settled in 2012 before the release of her second album.
In 2023, Kesha released her final album, Gag Order under the label on May 19. She officially parted ways with RCA, Kemosabe, and her management company, Vector Management in December of that year.
