TikTok, formerly known as musical.ly, is a Chinese video sharing social network. It is used to create short dance, lip sync, comedy, and talent videos.

On January 19, 2025, the app was officially banned in the United States. The ban lasted 14 hours.

Background[]

Kesha's account was created in 2019. Her first post was a video of her singing "TiK ToK" while brushing her teeth, but this one was posted to her other social media as well. Her first real TikTok was her lip-syncing to "Tonight", where she officially announced the single's release.

Kesha's song "Cannibal" received a resurgence in popularity due to a short dance routine developed by a TikTok user named Briana Hantsch.[1] Multiple other Kesha songs have gone viral since.

On June 22, 2021, Kesha performed "We R Who We R," "Your Love Is My Drug," and "TiK ToK" live and interviewed some TikTok creators for the First-Ever Global TikTok Pride Finale.[2]
